So I know that doesn't sound like a big deal, but it is to me! I have never liked my legs, so therefore I have never had the confidence to wear shorts out and about.
We often hear ourselves or other people complaining about parts of themselves, and we nearly always reply with 'Don't be so silly, you have lovely legs/hair/teeth/tummy....etc etc'... which of course is a nice thing to say, but what we can't do is change the way that person feels inside.
The only way we can alter how we feel about ourselves is to take responsibility for making a positive change from the inside and occasionally on the outside too.
But how do we go about that? Well, building your own confidence about yourself is easier than you think, we just have to be brave enough to confront it in the first place. Human nature is not helpful in this regard as we prefer to look away from our own accountability, but occasionally we find ourselves forced to look at what we have and what we are in a whole new light, giving us a different perspective on everything.
In my case, surgery and radiotherapy which has made my leg supposedly way less attractive, has been the trigger for a change in how I see my legs as more attractive. I am so grateful for the work they have done so far in carrying me tirelessly round this planet for the last 49 years, I have put them through hell working in Musical Theatre and dancing on them constantly, sometimes in crippling shoes! I have been skiing, swimming, running, standing, driving, walking etc etc ALL my life and not once have I loved them..til now!
Since surgery my brilliant legs have responded amazingly to my work towards recovery and regained their strength so that I can continue my life doing all the things I love.... HELLO!!????
So from now on, I am going to LOVE them, celebrate them and unashamedly wear shorts sometimes (don't worry, I won't subject you to their translucent colour any more than necessary!!)
Maybe today start to alter a negative view on something about yourself.... after all, you are the only self you have, and you are FABULOUS!
